We just got back from our two week tour through Germany!
The tour was used in order to launch "The Pillalu Project": an orphanage in Vijayawada, India that supports 28 orphaned street children. Each show consisted of a concert from our band Liz and the Lions, an exhibition of collaborative art done by the members of Pick a Pocket, as well as information about ways to get connected to the Pillalu project.
Through out the tour our team had many incredible experiences and saw the powerful ways their art moved people. Liz and the Lions used the tour in order to promote their new album “The Lore of the Burly Beasts”, which if you haven’t gotten your hands on yet, do so:
Liz and the Lions had incredible response through the music really moving and calling people to action. The band played a show every night and welcomed the audience to participate in their songs by becoming part of their tales of all the different "beasts" from their new album. Throughout their concert they connecting people to the stories of the children in The Pillalu Home and even sang songs the band wrote for the project.
The artist exhibited a collaborative exhibition of 15 art pieces. People were moved to personally connect with each child through the art. From water colors portraits by Ashley Davis, life sized oil paints by Ruth Pool to fine art hand colored photographs by Ulrich Mannchen of the children in Lion mask and culture documentary photos by Taylor Pool. The team collaborated on showing the individual characters of the children as well as the culture in which they live in.
Through the music and art our team was able to find monthly support for all 28 children! Not to mention raise almost all the necessary funds to build a new children home through music/ art sales and donations. We are extremely excited by the success we are having in supporting this project! This now means that for the next 3 years the children's home is securely supported with monthly support, allowing us to focus our time and energy on getting a new facility built and a social business created!
With open air concerts in Dresden, grunge bars in Hamburg, churches in Wöllfenbuttel and art exhibitions in Hof, we experienced different audiences, conversations, and people that allowed us different platforms to share about our work. From punk rock kids, children and Syrian refugee , Pick a Pocket poured into anyone who wanted to listen and experience the power of using art to end extreme poverty. Thank you Flori for all you've done!
